Deer Hunting at Neechee Cabin

Deer hunting has been a way of life for our family for generations. Occoneechee Neck sits in one of the most productive deer habitats in North Carolina, nestled along the Roanoke River floodplain. This landscape offers a perfect blend of bottomland hardwoods, swamps, ridges, and rich farmland. Deer here have everything they need—food, water, cover, and secluded pockets of refuge—all within close range. This combination keeps the herd healthy and plentiful.

Northampton County consistently ranks among the top counties in the state for deer density, and is often noted for having some of the highest “bucks per square mile” in North Carolina.

We take pride in our deer herd and in the hunting experience we’ve provided to guests for years. At Neechee Cabin, you can expect the very best that North Carolina’s deer habitat has to offer. Hunters return year after year because this land simply produces—plenty of does for the freezer, solid mature 8-pointers, and the occasional true trophy.

We maintain numerous stands, lanes, food plots, feeders, timber thinnings, and crop fields—all designed with your hunting success in mind. We offer "ready to go" hunts like you would expect from a traditional guide service, but with the freedom you would expect from a “private-club". You’ll have full, private use of the cabin, and every stand will be baited and ready. You’re free to hunt on your own timeline, and we actively encourage guests to bring climbers if you’d like to scout and set up on a spot that catches your eye.

Keep in mind, this is an exclusive experience, limited to no more than six hunters at a time. We do maintain harvest restrictions and expect our guests to be experienced deer hunters—or to acknowledge when they need a guide. Guests will sign a deer agreement, receive maps, and be issued a hunting permission pass for the length of their stay.

A shooting range sits just behind the cabin, and we ask every hunter to be fully dialed in with their weapon. While you’ll enjoy plenty of independence, you’re not completely on your own—we monitor what is harvested and are always close by if you need assistance. Our goal is to preserve the quality of the experience for future hunters by ensuring that all guests respect the herd.

At Neechee Cabin, we believe great deer hunting is about more than filling a tag. It’s about patience, stewardship of the land, and enjoying a well-earned experience in a special place. Our approach to Quality Deer Management allows us to offer a hunt that is thoughtful, rewarding, and intentionally unhurried.

To ensure every guest has the best possible stay, we ask that you take a moment to consider what you’re looking for in a deer hunting experience. Neechee Cabin is an ideal fit for hunters who:

-Appreciate the discipline of letting young bucks walk in favor of mature deer.

-Enjoy the experience of the hunt just as much as the harvest—quiet sits, observation, and time in the stand included.

-Understand that not every sit guarantees deer sightings, and value patience as part of the pursuit.

-Practice safe, responsible hunting at all times, with full respect for firearms and fellow guests.

-Are comfortable tracking and field dressing a deer, or are happy to let us know in advance if a guide is needed.

-Take pleasure in preparing their own meals and gathering together afterward—one of the simple luxuries of cabin life.

Neechee Cabin is best suited for hunters who value quality over quantity, respect tradition, and appreciate the comfort of a refined retreat at the end of a day in the woods. If that sounds like your kind of hunt, you’ll feel right at home here.

Please note: Deer hunts at Neechee Cabin are priced per person, and offered only in tight 3-day rotations or full-week stays—unlike our other booking types.

If you have any questions before booking your hunt, feel free to reach out. We’re always happy to help you get ready for a memorable experience at Neechee Cabin.

Enjoy classic small-game hunting across our open farmland, thickets, and forest edges — a perfect choice for hunters who appreciate the traditional walk-and-stalk experience. Make it a memorable father-and-son squirrel hunt, or pull together a group for a fun Dove or Rabbit Hunt.
